Pre K - The Three Little Pigs

Last week we all worked very hard on our Three Little Pigs scene. We made one house out of straw, one house out of sticks, and finally the last house out of bricks. Afterwards, we made 3 pig puppets as well as a wolf puppet. This week we were finally able to use our puppets while the story was read to the children. Everyone had a turn to act out a scene. The children used their recall skills as they remembered the events of the story, as well as their creative skills as they made up alternative endings. We all had a lot of fun!

Mini Pre K

Today our Mini Preschoolers participated in a Matching Alphabet and Number Game. A board was set up with large letters from A to Z. The Preschoolers were given a number of alphabet stickers to attach to the corresponding letter.
The children loved the game! This activity fostered their Letter Recognition skills and they all were able to identify the letter that begins their name.

The eager learners were also given a board with the numbers 0 to 5 and the correct number of dots next to the written numeral. The children were given number stickers and encouraged to place them next to the matching number. This game improved their Representing Numbers skills because they were recognising numbers in print and representing numbers in different ways. This activity was a great way to foster math and language learning and helped improve the children's  confidence in these areas.

St Patrick's Day!

This week we celebrated St Patrick's Day at School!
We got to try a variety of new art experiences that included Leprechauns, rainbows, clovers, lucky coins and charms and we even had a lucky coin hide and seek game!
All the children had a great time going through our St Patrick's Dress up box and choosing funny hats to wear for our party.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Mini Pre K

This month our theme is Fairy Tales and this week we concentrated on the classic "The Three Little Pigs". Our Preschoolers made creative paintings and collages today using different sensory materials such as petals and feathers. The gluing and manipulation of these materials helps improve their Fine Motor skills. For the second part of our Visual Arts class we painted a wooden house for our three little pig caricatures (Made from clay yesterday). The Preschoolers had to work together to create and paint a wooden house. They interacted positively and co-operatively while sharing the paints and brushes. This activity also fostered their representation skills because they were able to help construct a 3D model. It was a great activity all around!

Pre K - Paper Bag Princess

Last week we have been reading The Paper Bag Princess story by Robert Munsch. All week we have been reviewing the plot as well as the different characters. In Theatre class, we reenacted the story, and we all took turns pretending to be the dragon. During circle we used our recall skills as we discussed the events in the story in order. Finally, in art class we decided to make big dragons out of egg cartons. We are excited to use our dragons as part of our play!

Mr James Funny Hat!

Today we had our indoor field trip. Mr James Funny Hat came to visit us and we surprised him by wearing our funny hats! Together we sang some silly songs, played musical instruments and even did some animal dances. Mr James Funny Hat showed us how to play several different musical instruments such as the guitar, banjo, accordion and even some African drums. We had  a wonderful time!
