Today our friends were very interested in exploring relationships and community roles in their outdoor play. We had mums, babies and big sisters. We had Kangaroos and Joeys on cars. We even had turtles taking care of their eggs! Mum took big sister and baby to school, then went home to do jobs while she waited until it was time to pick them up. A teacher took care of big sister and baby, teaching them songs and sharing toys with them. Kangaroo was teaching Joey to be careful in the forest and call for help if he got scared. The turtles took great care of their eggs and talked about swimming in the sea once they hatched! This type of play helps us to develop deeper understandings of different ways that people (and animals!) interact with each other. We develop negotiation and conversational skills while exploring the notion of identity and expand on what we know about the roles and traits of different people. It's fantastic to see our friends engaging in such cooperative, narrative-driven play, what adventures will we be going on next?!
