Science

Today while we were outside we saw ants and a big caterpillar! Everyone was so excited, especially about seeing the caterpillar so we decided to have a science class about different insects. We looked in the science table and saw different insects such as ants, beetles, grasshoppers, centipedes and caterpillars. We talked about where these insects live and what they eat. Afterwards, we picked our favourite one, put them on the table and drew a still life drawing of it. We’re all excited to keep looking outside to find more insects!

Visual Art - Carousel

This week we have been discussing all the different things we would see at a circus or carnival. The children were very excited about carousels so we drew some horses, cut them out then painted them carnival colours. We developed our fine motor skills as we focused on using a tripod grip on the paintbrush and identifying colours of paint. We can’t wait to show you our Carousel!

Yoga!

Today we did some Yoga with Ms Aneika. Ms Aneika helped us choose our yoga mats and lay them down all in a line. We took one song to calm down and focus on our breathing. The next song we worked on some poses to help stabilize our core then we took turns choosing our favourite poses. We used our arms and legs and had a great time!

Special Guest Mr Nick!

Today our friend Mr Nick came as a special guest star! He taught all of us a very cool Hip Hop routine that had us all looking very street savvy! We did a great job listening and following Mr Nick’s directions. Thank you Mr Nick we can’t wait to see you again J

Summer Olympics!

Today we went to the park to experience a little bit of Olympic fever! The children discussed what they knew about the Olympics and what sports were included, how medals were awarded and what countries competed. We ran some races at the park, played jumping jacks and even had a fantastic game of follow the leader! At the end we held a real medal ceremony where the children were awarded medals for all of their hard work.

Leaf Painting!

Last week as we finished off our month of nature study we decided to create a painting using leaves. The children thought of this idea and helped their teachers to find some old leaves on the ground in our playground. We mixed our paint up different colours and then used the leaves to paint on our pages. We noticed that different leaves left different imprints and made different shapes and sizes. We had a great time!
