Summer Art!

Today the whole school worked as a team to create a large art project that will be displayed on our main floor. Since the theme of the week is summer, we painted a large mural with sand and bright blue waters. We all had a chance to share about a time where we played on a beach and may have swam in a big body of water like a lake or an ocean. We practices taking turns, and not speaking while one of our friends is speaking. We also individually painted beach umbrellas and boats to stick onto our large mural painting. By sharing the colour paints and moving back and fourth from the group paint to the individual paint, it helped to build our teamwork skills as well as turn taking skills. We enjoyed working as a large group and can’t wait to display our beautiful summer scene!

Language Story Time

Today our friend Amelie brought us a special book about a Ballerina dancing Swan Lake. She wanted to share it with the class! We all sat quietly while Amelie introduced the story. When we were reading we were looking for words that rhyme, as well as words that we did not know. If someone did not understand a word we would stop reading the story and explain what it meant, then we would re-read the sentence so that we all understood. On every page we would use pictures cues to predict what was happening in the story, then we would go ahead and read the words. Since we have been practicing our special dances everyday for the concert, we all had something in common with the Ballerina from the story. It was a great story time, and we all thanked Amelie for bringing the book to school today!

Turn taking in music class

Today we got to have a special lesson with Ms Lauren J!
We took turns playing the piano with our friends and sang our favourite songs. We tried singing using different styles of voice, eg. Loud, soft, spooky, robot. We then tried singing with different tempos such as fast and slow. We had a great time singing and dancing at the piano!

Happy Birthday Ms Lauren!

Today we helped out teacher Ms Lauren to celebrate her birthday! We all made Ms Lauren a special birthday card and practiced our most beautiful handwriting. We wrote our names and incorporated using the sight words we have been learning. We sang Happy Birthday to Ms Lauren at snack time and then helped her eat her Birthday cake J

Science: Weather!

The children have been very interested in the change in weather we have seen lately. Gone are our gloves and snow jackets and now we are wearing sandals and t shirts!
This week we have learnt about the different weather patterns and started asking a lot of questions about why. Why does the sun shine brightly? What is the difference between sow and rain? We hope to start investigating these questions next week.

Sandcastle Art!

This week we have been talking about weather and all of the different types of weather we have seen. We talked about cold and snowy weather, we talked about rainy days, and finally we talked about sunny hot weather! First we worked on our fine motor skills by drawing a sun into the “hot” section of our Weather Wheels that we will take home at the end of the week. Next, each child talked about something they enjoyed to do outside when the sun is shining, and we all decided we love to play in the sand and make sand castles! We continued to develop our fine motor skills by using small containers of real sand, which we carefully sprinkled onto the sandcastle cutouts!
