Happy Valentines Day!

This morning for Valentines Day we were very busy!

We finished our special Valentines Presents and

cards for our secret Valentines. Then we made a

 circle and each hand delivered our valentines to

 our friends. The children were very excited to

read the names they wrote on their cards and

 hand out their special treasures!

Piggy Banks!

With all the excitement we have had learning about money and currency, the children have been discussing why and how to save money. We talked about piggy banks and why they are useful. The children then followed this through by suggesting they write what they would like to save all their money for. Our piggy banks are made from paper mached containers which the children then painted and decorated. They have assured us they are going to save lots of money in their piggy banks J

Shopping!

The children have a lot of questions about money and why we need it, where does it come from and what do you do with it. We started learning about money by learning how people used to trade / bater before money was a form of currency. We practiced trading our magic stones for different items then examined our Canadian currency once again. The children decided they liked the old way better and would rather swap a sheep for a cow than pay with coins! Then we created a shop and the children chose their items, paid with their money and were even issued a receipt. We had a great time J

Money, money, money!

This month the children will be learning all about money. When we discussed what we knew about money the children knew a lot about needing money to buy things and going into shops. Based on this knowledge we decided to make cash registers to put our money in. The children discussed what numbers and buttons we should put on the registers then painted them fun colours. After this we looked at some real money and then coloured in our own paper money.

With all the snow and rain in the last

few days the children decided it would be

a great idea to come to school in our pjs!

we all came dressed in our favourite pjs

with a pillow and a snuggly toy. We played

pj dance, pillow races and even ate a special

snack of cookies and cupcakes! We all had
a great time enjoying our pj day J

Pizza Chefs!

Extending on the children’s interests of making pizzas this week

we decided as a class to make our own pizza. The children

decided on what kinds of toppings they wanted and we all took
turns to spoon our toppings onto the pizza dough. After a few

minutes in the oven our pizzas were ready. They were delicious!
