Happy Chinese New Year!

The children were very excited to learn about Chinese New Year this week. We read books about dragons and why there is lots of use of the colour red and learnt what an important celebration it is. Look at our dragons we made to celebrate Chinese New Year 2012.

Happy Birthday Melanie!

Today we celebrated our friend Melanie's 3rd Birthday. We shared yummy cup cakes then played special birthday games. We played musical chairs, dance freeze and even musical books! Happy Birthday Melanie from all your friends at Little Feet Little Faces.

Pizza Store!

With the children's interests in pizza shops getting even more momentum this week we decided they needed special chef hats for when they cook their pizzas. The children painted their chef hats then we attached a top to it. The children all agree that their pizzas taste extra yummy when they make them wearing their special hats!

The children found some fliers with pizza coupons on it and decided to open their own pizza store! They wrote menus with pictures, made pretend pizzas with lots of delicious toppings and even found some pizza boxes to deliver the pizzas in. While engaged in this experience the children used their prior knowledge to draw on, thought about what kind of pizza they would like and strengthened their fine motor skills and control.

How do we paint fireworks?

The children have been very excited to explore New Years Eve and the kinds of celebrations that they experienced. We have talked a lot about fireworks and the children decided they wanted to paint some. We used the wax crayons to colour different patterns of colours onto plain paper then painted over the top with black paint. The children then used their fingers to scratch on top of the paint and create fireworks. The beautiful colours they had drawn earlier came through the paint. Their pictures look amazing!

This month we are learning all about celebrations. We began our week back at school discussing New Year Celebrations. The children had some great stories to tell that included seeing fireworks, eating yummy dinners with family and friends and even playing special games! The children decided they wanted to write and draw about fireworks. Together we sounded out the word fireworks then labelled our drawing.
Everyone did a wonderful job!
