Class 5 made a special speaking stick for our class. We thought this would be a great way of helping our friends actively
listen to each other. Furthermore, it is a fun way of turn taking as we allow one another to speak while our friends respectfully listen.
To make our speaking stick, we used popsicle sticks and a paper plates to
represent our "speaking sign". Before designing our sign, we came up with ideas of what we want our sign to say. Class 5 agreed that, "I'm speaking, please listen" would be best. That way everyone knows that who ever is holding onto the speaking stick should be the only one speaking. We then each drew some pictures of what speaking and
listening might look like. Overall, we are excited about using our speaking stick especially during circle time where meaningful conversations take place!
