Class 5 - Impromptu party!

Yesterday while we waited for all our classmates to arrive, some friends invented a game where they were cutting up foods for a special party. As more and more friends arrived they joined in too, and before we knew it we had all the preparations for a super awesome party! So we ditched our original plan for the morning's lessons and followed our interest. For our literacy time we wrote labels for all the plates of food. For our math time we counted and sorted ingredients, then shared them out into even portions. Our party game also lent itself very well to drama role-play and dance experiences!
Taking this emergent approach to our curriculum for the day was super fun, we felt important and in-control of our own learning; and it helped us to think about how all thw things we learn here at school relate to our home lives as well.
We had such a great time that we think we'll do it again soon!
