The idea of reading environmental print makes learning meaningful for children by using their prior knowledge and interests in their social contexts. We made traffic lights that the children are familiar with in their day to day lives and put it into context for following the rules at school. Walking feet is a very important rule within the school - to keep everyone safe and calm, and to prevent anyone from falling. If one of the children forget the rules, the traffic light can help to remind them what they should be doing. The right light on the traffic light means stop running, the yellow light means please wait, and the green light of course means go. This morning the children had a great time pointing to the green light, practicing their walking feet, and showing their friends that they were following the rules!
