Class 3: Namaste...

The gesture Namaste represents "the belief that there is a divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another". Perhaps my favorite part of the daily routine with my friends in Class 3 is opening/closing active art period with a little yoga. At the very least, we always try to take a few moments to lay in Savasana which might look like a small nap but is actually meant to be a fully conscious pose aimed at being awake, yet completely relaxed. For us grownups, with a million tasks, concerns, and deadlines plaguing our waking minds, this is no easy feat. So, who better to practice this with, than preschoolers!? As we lay on our backs practicing our breathing we admire the beautiful crown molding on the ceiling, the way the light reflects off the disco balls like "stars" and casts shadows which look like "spiders". There is a remarkable sense of being at ease, as if all is right with the world. Great relaxation Class 3!
