To finish off our current unit of work this week the children learnt a new game today. We learnt how to play a simplified version of monopoly. The children each took turns throwing the dice and counting how many dots were on it. They then moved their counter that many spaces. When they landed on the ATM icon they got to put their bankcard into the ATM machine and it automatically spat out their money. They then used this money to buy houses to put on the monopoly board. We had a great time playing this game and learning about money!

Snow White
This month the children are learning about fairytales. When we started talking about fairytales and what we know about them and love about them the children were very interested in Snow White. Melanie told her friends how the mean witch gave Snow White a poisoned apply to eat. The children decided to recreate this poison apple. They painted it red then added poison sparkles. We are all very excited for this unit of work!

Counting
The children have been very interested in counting their money in the dramatic play shop area. We decided since it’s tricky to remember what the numerals on the notes are that we would practice recognising our numbers. The children took turns reading the numbers out on their blocks then we made it extra tricky by adding an addition sign! To finish off our lesson the children made some block towers then counted how many blocks were in their tower.

Happy Valentines Day!
We finished our special Valentines Presents and
cards for our secret Valentines. Then we made a
circle and each hand delivered our valentines to
our friends. The children were very excited to
read the names they wrote on their cards and
hand out their special treasures!

Piggy Banks!
With all the excitement we have had learning about money and currency, the children have been discussing why and how to save money. We talked about piggy banks and why they are useful. The children then followed this through by suggesting they write what they would like to save all their money for. Our piggy banks are made from paper mached containers which the children then painted and decorated. They have assured us they are going to save lots of money in their piggy banks J
