Reading Environmental Print!

The idea of reading environmental print makes learning meaningful for children by using their prior knowledge and interests in their social contexts. We made traffic lights that the children are familiar with in their day to day lives and put it into context for following the rules at school. Walking feet is a very important rule within the school - to keep everyone safe and calm, and to prevent anyone from falling. If one of the children forget the rules, the traffic light can help to remind them what they should be doing. The right light on the traffic light means stop running, the yellow light means please wait, and the green light of course means go. This morning the children had a great time pointing to the green light, practicing their walking feet, and showing their friends that they were following the rules!

Mini Pre K

This week is Animal Week at Little Feet Little Faces. Our mini  preschoolers were enthusiastic to paint a cardboard cut out of a butterfly. Tomorrow they will decorate it and begin painting a large fish to be hung up in the preschool. We used lots of vivid colours and sparkly paint to give the butterfly an exotic effect. The children used their fine motor skills to paint with brushes, sponges and fingers!  We also worked with our wet to dry clay and moulded it in to animal like shapes. These will also be painted tomorrow. The children at Little Feet Little Faces seem to be getting a lot out of our Visual Arts class as it allows their artistic and dramatic imaginations to develop.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Today we celebrated one of our friends 3rd birthdays! Our class made a birthday card and presented it to our friend after we sang Happy Birthday in our music circle. We played our favourite games, Musical Chairs, and Freeze Dance. We also celebrated by singing Happy Birthday during snack and eating the treats Olivia brought for us. Thank you Olivia for the yummy cookies!

JK Literacy

Today our JK class learnt their new sight words for the week. We practised using them in sentences then also played a game with the flash cards. We took turns trying to read our sight words as fast as we could. To finish off our lesson we wrote 2 sentences and included some of our new sight words in them. We are doing a wonderful job learning how to read!

Pre K Jazz Dance

We have been having a lot of fun during our dance classes. We have been practicing different levels such as reaching up to the sky on our tip toes, as well as squatting on the floor to get very low. We practiced our loco motor movements by marching, skipping, hopping and bouncing. We also followed direction by listening and watching our teacher.

Mini Pre K

Today our mini preschoolers worked with wet to dry clay. The children used their hands and fingers to manipulate non toxic clay into shapes. The children created dogs, snakes, monsters and bowls amongst other ideas. This definitely helped develop their fine motor skills as the clay needed to be kneaded. One preschooler came up with the idea to put googly eyes on his clay snake. This activity definitely helped their creative representation skills to flourish. When the clay dries it will be painted and we can't wait to see what their imaginations will cook up then!

They are having a great time in Sydney, Australia and have made some wonderful new friends. We all miss them very much so we thought we would send a picture back. Hello all the way to Australia!

Pre K Valentine's Day Crafts

This week and last week the Pre K's have been working hard and having fun making Valentine's Crafts. We talked about Valentine's Day, and discussed different ways we can show our family and friends that we love and care about them. Our favourite craft that we did were our hand print hearts. We dipped our hands in red paint, and we placed them on our paper so that our thumbs and index fingers created a heart shape. We are all excited to have fun at our Valentine's party at the end of the week!
