Field Trip!

Today we went on a special field trip to the cinema to see Dr Seuss's The Lorax. We walked together and saw lots of fun things on the way. Once we got to the cinema we gave our tickets to the lady at the front and got our special 3D glasses. Once inside the theatre we all sat very nicely and got ready to enjoy the show! We had a great time learning about conservation and how we can save our planet, one tree at a time!

Spring is here!

Since last week marked the first official day of spring, we wanted to do something to celebrate. The class started to talk about all of the things change outside during the season of spring. We talked about how the snow melts and the warmer temperatures make the grass begin to grow. We also talked about how all of the birds that flew south for the winter start to come back to enjoy the nice weather in Canada. Some of the students knew that in spring time the caterpillars hide in their cocoons and when they are ready they break out of the cocoon and become butterflies. The class brainstormed lots of different ideas about what they see outside in springtime, and in order to visualize our conversation we decided to paint a spring scene!

Paper Bag Princess!

To end our month long theme of fairytales, we read the story “The Paper Bag Princess”. It taught us the valuable lesson about not judging people by their appearance or what they wear for clothing. To make the story come alive we made our very own paper bag princesses. The children were given the chance to show their creativity by giving the princess a face, and decorating the princess skirt and crown in any way that they imagined it. Once our paper bag princesses are all finished, we are going to re-enact the book with our new puppets!

Shrek!

This week the children were excited to learn about Shrek! They watched a show on the field trip last week and were given some Shrek masks to make. We made our masks and then danced like Shrek: Heavy, big footsteps that got stuck in the mud in his swamp. Then we changed into Princess Fiona and danced like a beautiful princess. Lastly we were very lucky to watch a little bit of the Shrek movie to introduce us to Shrek’s friends such as Donkey, the Gingerbread man and Dragon. We had a great time!

Fairytales!

This month we are learning about fairytales. This week we are
reading the Three Little pigs. The children decided they wanted to
read the story, draw the main characters and then extend it even
further by creating a mini theatre and stage complete with
characters! This is a big project and the children are all working
very hard. We are using our emergent literacy skills to read and
follow the text as well as take our ideas and transform them into
an art project.

Dance Class

Today we had a special dance class. We introduced our new friends Brianna and Bradlee to the wonderful world of dance! We all practiced standing on our stars, listened to directions and worked out how to move our body in different ways. We stretched up high and low, we stretched side to side and then made our bodies tall and short. We also practiced our loco motor movements by skipping, hopping and marching across the dance floor.

Mirror mirror on the wall

The children have been reading Snow White and were very interested by the mirror the evil step mother had in her house. The children decided to create this mirror and began with painting and decorating the border, they then spent some one on one time with Ms Lauren to look in the mirror and draw their face using observational drawing skills.
